Our cities continue to grow to accommodate our ever increasing populations. A challenge of the built environment is the amount of energy required to service our urban centres. We need to re-think the way we build and allocate sources of energy for long term sustainability of our environment and our neighbourhoods. “Harmony with Energy” showcases research currently underway at the University of British Columbia at the Centre for Interactive Research in Sustainability (CIRS) by members of the NSERC-CREATE funded Sustainable Building Science Program (SBSP). Through the use of building and energy models, we can create interactions between buildings that, like musical harmony, result in outcomes better than the component pieces.
