Running at 4K output resolution with the Vulkan renderer. Using 16x internal resolution upscaling, SABR texture filtering, 14x CD-ROM speed and PGXP enabled (memory only) with perspective correct texturing. Widescreen hack is also enabled. The PS1 NTSC version of GTA1 aims at an internal framerate of 20fps or so, but it can routinely dip below this, as low as 16fps or so. By enabling GTE Overclock, you can eliminate some of the GTE stalls (Geometry Transfer Engine) and thereby cut down on these framedrops. But if you'd like to beef the framerate up to a more acceptable level, you can go for a CPU overclock of around 150%. This combined with GTE Overclock should give you a solid locked 30fps. You can try bumping CPU overclocking all the way up to 300% in order to obtain 60fps, but it will become apparent that the game speed was not built around this, and your character will move too fast and the game becomes almost unplayable. The 3Dfx PC version is probably the better, more definitive version of this game out of the two; the PS1 version seems to be more constrained and takes several shortcuts, especially in performance.
