Iranian British academic Abbas Edalat detained in Iran. An Iranian-British academic has been arrested in Iran by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a human rights group has said. The academic and anti-war activist Abbas Edalat, who is based in London, travelled to Iran from his home in England at an unknown date to attend an academic workshop, according to the Centre for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI). He is a professor of computer science and mathematics at the Imperial College. Mr Edalat's home in Tehran has reportedly been raided by the IRGC and his belongings, including his computer, CDs and notebooks, have been confiscated when he was arrested, according to the New York-based CHRI. Mr Edalat's family posted bail for him on 21 April but it was rejected, with the Revolutionary Court in Tehran claiming there was a problem with the documentation. Iranian authorities said on Wednesday the attempt to post bail would have to be restarted, according to the CHRI. The Foreign Office said they are looking into the matter. "We are urgently seeking information from the Iranian authorities following reports of the arrest of a British-Iranian dual national," a spokesman said. Iranian-British dual national Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe has been imprisoned in Iran since 2016. Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe is serving a five-year jail term in Iran after she was convicted of spying, which she has always denied. Her husband Richard Ratcliffe has criticised the Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson's unsuccessful bids to have her released.
