In the late 70’s and into the early 80’s, there were weekly syndicated broadcasts of UNLV Basketball to many TV stations. KHJ-TV was the L. A. affiliate and, as a budding Vegas fanboy, I only stayed around for the commercials (which were largely from Vegas establishments) and for the halftime show the show’s host Chick Hearn would interview somebody from a hotel & casino.

….also during halftime, the shows main sponsor, Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority, would roll a five minute commercial for this town. As with my discovery with the radio station, I wanted to record the spots, but UNLIKE the radio station, I was limited with recording options as I didn’t have a VCR at the time.

So what you’re about to hear is me shoving my old battered Sears boom box (the same one I use to record the radio spots) against the TV speaker and pressing record to capture the music and narration. Plus, if you reeeeely listen close enough, you can hear me whooping it up at the sight of the Caesars Palace in the film.

As far as the sports portion of the show was concerned? Well, you’ll get the idea how far back THIS part was on the pecking order.
