Stingray Swarm! Marina Del Rey Beach - California

Marina Del Rey had a huge swarm of stingrays. So I got a little bit of video of a school of sting rays. I didn’t walk out too far into the swarm because I was kinda scared of getting stung. I hopped on my Hasaki stand up paddle board and paddled over top of them. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of stingrays. I’ve never seen so many. They were all piled up on top of each other. I couldn’t even see the sand at the bottom. They were totally covering the ocean floor. I didn’t get a lot of video because I was afraid of getting stung. But if I was stung by a sting ray, I would have captured it live on film with my GoPro camera. You don’t want get stung by a sting ray. Boy that would hurt. Watch out, sometimes sting rays can attack. A sting ray barb to the heart can be deadly. A sting ray barb is probably the worst splinter you could get, besides a sea urchin sting. Ouch! And you might have to get surgery to remove the barb. Yikes! Sometimes removal of the sting ray venom can be done with hot water. I once got a bunch of sea urchin spines impaled in my foot, near my heel when I was snorkeling in Hawaii. My fiancé at the time, Wyat, tried to remove the spikes, but it was a total fail. They were too brittle and kept breaking off in my foot. But, hey I didn’t die. I’m still here.
