Theresa May (pictured left, leading Downing Street in a carol service tonight) ploughed ahead with her festive duties as PM despite her Brexit plans hitting fresh tumoil. She sparked fevered speculation about a U-turn by summoning senior ministers to Downing Street this afternoon. Several members of the Cabinet have been urging her to think again in the face of massive opposition from Tory rebels and the DUP. She held around an hour of talks with ministers including Philip Hammond, Amber Rudd, Andrea Leadsom (bottom right) and Michael Gove (top right). David Gauke, Sajid Javid, Liam Fox, and Stephen Barclay are also present. But Downing Street confirmed that there is still no prospect of the showdown next Tuesday being called off. Sources told MailOnline the meeting was 'taking stock' of the situation. Earlier, Mrs May struck a defiant tone as she warned there is no other deal on the table, and that killing her proposal off would either end up with the UK crashing out of the EU - or Brexit not happening at all. In interview, Mrs May said her fear was that 'Parliament in some way frustrates Brexit'. The premier also confirmed that she is looking at ways to sweeten her blueprint for mutinous MPs - suggesting there could be a parliamentary 'lock' on the Irish border backstop arrangements coming into force.
