Former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, now President of the ALDE group of liberals and democrats in the European parliament, on Thursday called for a "bold stability pact" for stronger economic cooperation between the union's member states that have adopted the euro as a single currency to keep together the euro zone. He made his comments a few hours before EU heads of state and government arrived in Brussels for a poignant summit on eurozone economic governance.
