If you'd like to know more about the Instar project, please peruse the video description for "We're Getting Older" on my channel.

Mr. Greg Greenberg again contacted me in April of last year regarding playing on another Instar tune. The three (all accessible on my channel to stream) have since been compiled onto a 'self-titled' EP release, now available to purchase via their Bandcamp. If you dig this stuff, please consider supporting them! I'm also thrilled to announce that I'll be playing on the second Instar EP, which is currently in composition mode.

"The True Article" was mastered by my pal Taylor Larson of Oceanic Recording. It features narration of prose--from the titular 'The True Article' piece, written by Eden Kupermintz--by Shantel Amundson, guitars by both Doug Van Bevers and Nick Maini, synths by Kubbi, and strings by Pablo Hopenhayn. My own stereo/'wet' mix was utilized.

Like previous Instar tunes, one hi-hat remains closed throughout the piece, this time being the 13" pair. I also used my 13" rack tom for this recording. For any further gear inquiries, please visit: http://www.travisorbin.com/equipment.htm

Notes:
-intro - barrage fill-ins contain several subdivisions, including an over-the-bar 8th-note quintuplet
-0:46 - 1:15 - quintuplet-laden section
-1:16 - 1:56 - second A section starts like first, then smoothly segues into ghosts, then a shuffle groove; the guitarists sought to complement this, sounds killer
-2:07 - 2:17 - added some effects/filters on the drums here to emphasize the 'breakbeat' vibe, culminating at the end with the two-handed staccato press roll before it ends aprubtly
-2:40 - 2:44 - brief metric modulation to break up the chaos (before returning to a slightly different intro reprise); the room mics automate to ramp up and explode here
-4:13 - 4:17 - my idea here was to use the same effects employed on the breakbeat at 2:08 to give it a bit of a conceptual tie-in, even though it's a reprise of a different part
-outro - a funky marching-esque snare-driven part anchored by a kick/pedal hat in variations of 3
