NTB039 - DJ Manga 'Dr Carmack E.P.' Never far from from his drawing board, cyber architect DJ Manga creates the model, once again, to tower above the mundane stream of racing rats. Dr Carmack presides over a highly qualified association of tearing tracks, featuring a welcome return from DJ Dangerous of 'Work Boots' fame (Beatport top ten D&B) in the sensational collaboration 'Pull Up'. There's decades of study piled into this pedigree and a wealth of skill to set the standard. As always, we find in Manga's studio the best aspects of all the legends who've gone before him, brilliantly executed in his own, inimitable style. 1/ Manga 'Dr Carmack' Electrified, flanged rim shots delicately combine with moody atmospherics and trilling harp in the intro to this insane stomper. The brutal vocal sample heightens the apprehension "… Whaddya mean, he killed himself? He was already DEAD!" This is a journey through Manga's seedy underbelly, tumultuous crash cymbals tear at the throat of the punchy snares as the heaviest of basslines pulverises the dance into oblivion. 2/ Manga 'Risk' Overdriven distortion is taken to psychotic extremes in the climatic build up to this jump-up frenzy. There's a natty new twist to the vocoding of the film sample, giving this track a strangely compelling edge but it's really all about the b-line… The contorted bass engineering defies all reason or emulation making the whole piece truly one of a kind. 3/ Manga 'Skillz' Clipped breaks couldn't be more in-vogue and Manga continues the trend in this distinctly Bristol-flavoured roller. The sampled vox take us back to the 60's with an authentic 'news reader' vibe as Manga executes this "…Highly complex task requiring engineers over many disciplines…" The electronic warfare barely contained by the bass is softened by the caress of the pad scales- built to make you move! 4/ Manga & Dangerous 'Pull Up' This much anticipated groove is all set to become a summer anthem, the partnership is dynamite and they're going to blow your sox off! Instantly recognizable 'Sound Murderer' vocal samples weave amongst spacey cries of "Zombies!" The drum programming here is just incredible with fills & filtered touches to fill your boots as the demented crash cymbals beat your brain and the rabid b-line shoots to kill. This one will slay you.
