HC DIRECTS GOVT TO SET UP 'SOTO' IN GOA IN 6 MONTH _Prudent Media Goa

High Court has directed Goa government and the Union Ministry of Health to set up State Organ Transplant Organization within a period of six months. High Court has also directed the Authorities to make available the necessary cross-matching facilities for organ transplant in the state. Goa government has informed the High Court that as of now there is Kidney and Cornea transplant facilities available in GMC. NGO Mango Foundation has filed a Public Interest Litigation before the High Court pleading to direct competent authorities to set up State Organ Transplant Organization in the state of Goa. Petitioner NGO has contended that as per the Transplantation of Human Organ and Tissues Rules, 2014 every state must have minimum one unit of State Organ Transplant Organization. The petitioner further contended that the non set up of SOTTO is resulting in patients or prospective recipients from Goa losing out on organs and organs were being allocated directly to patients on the list maintained by ROTTO (Regional Organ Transplant Authority), Mumbai.
