HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Vandals broke into a storage shed and took hundreds of dollars worth of gear, according to the Henderson County Youth Softball League President. "They've taken the helmets, the chest protectors and the shin guards. With shipping and everything, that's probably about $260 each," said President Bryan Crisp. "Being a non-profit that really hurts." Crisp got a call this morning that the league's shed in Etowah Park had a large hole in the side of it. Friday afternoon he was still working with his staff to determine if it was only catching gear that was taken. Crisp says that staff volunteer their time to fundraise for the program, which includes 16 to 20 youth teams. "When you're a catcher, and you're handed a brand new set of gear it's like getting a new car," said Crisp. According to the league, vandals have hit the park every few months for the last few years, targeting everything from the bathrooms, to the press box and the batting cages. The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says it's heightened patrols in area parks following the reports of vandalism. _______________ Follow WLOS on social media: WLOS ABC 13 News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/News13/ WLOS ABC 13 News on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WLOS_13 WLOS ABC 13 News on Instagram: https://instagram.com/wlos_13 Subscribe to WLOS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ABC13Channel/?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to AnchorMOMS, the Podcast: https://wlos.com/news/anchormoms/anchormoms-the-podcast Watch more top local news stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk8Ge6UXHJs&list=PLkVbaoT-aYbIvnEpR0Ct5QQQqYaORUSUH For all of the day’s top local and national news, visit http://www.wlos.com Watch our live newscasts and other live video at https://wlos.com/watch Have a news tip?
