Approximately every 18 years, 11 days, and 8 hours an eclipse occurs. For example, there is a solar eclipse on 21 August 2017. On 11 August 1999 there was also an eclipse and this eclipse was approximately 18 years, 11 days, and 8 hours earlier. This series of eclipses is known as the Saros cycle.

Another interesting things about the Saros Cycle is that the consecutive eclipses in the Saros Cycle occur at nearly the same greographic latitude and separate very roughly by 120 degrees of longitude or, in other words, about 1/3 of the way around the world. 

Some astrologers believe that to fully understand the impact of an eclipse you need to analyze previous eclipses in the Saros Cycle because each eclipse is a step in the cycle of eclipses in the Saros Cycle. Each eclipse is like one component of the larger Saros Cycle.

For astrologers who wish to study the previous eclipses in the Saros Cycle having an easy way to bring up the sequence of charts in the Saros Cycle is very helpful. This can be done in SIrius 2 and Kepler 8.
