When one thinks of Led Zeppelin the name Elvis Presley doesn't exactly pop into your mind huh? Zeppelin's former front-man Robert Plant says he had quite a history with the King of Rock and Roll.

Elvis was born in in 1935 and Plant in 1948. There was 13 years between them and in 1956, for instance, Plant as only 8 when Elvis appeared in his first and biggest box office movie hit “Love Me Tender.” Plant told Howard Stern this past week that he was an influence, “I didn’t know what he danced like, to be honest. I just knew the voice … it just was celestial,” Plant said he couldn't see Elvis in movies since he had no access to any of that.

In the 70's the roles were reversing Plant says Elvis was curious about Zeppelin, “He knew that we were selling tickets faster than him and he wanted to know what kind of phenomenon this was,” So the group was invited to meet the king at am LA hotel room filled with young ladies that according to Plant looked lime actress Sandra Dee. Plant told Stern, “When the room was suitably full … when the room was buzzing with anticipation, the door opened and this guy just, I don’t know what the word is. It’s not sashay, it’s not slink … he just grooved his way through the people,” 

The cool thing about the meeting was the pair talked about music for a few hours and Plant says he was not nervous at all.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977. He was only 42. He'd be 82 if he had lived. Robert Plant is 69 and he certainly lived a life of excess as well but told Howard Stern that it that 1975 car crash in Greece that changed his perspective on live after that on living everyday fully, Why waste a second of time after that? Drugs, I have no interest in … It got in the way of joy,” Excess is certainly what killed their drummer John Bonham in 1980. He drowned in his own vomit after a big drinking binge. Plant says,  “He was a loose cannon but he was a spectacular guy.”
