The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in partnership with the  Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, has produced a television Public Service Announcement on discrimination against people of African descent ,in the context of the International Year for People of African Descent.

The main objective of the International Year is to raise awareness of the challenges facing people of African descent. Few people know who people of African descent are, how many they are around the world and where they live. Few also know their history and their contributions to the societies in which they live. This shows their lack of visibility and the particular discrimination they face on a daily basis, wherever they may be.

With this PSA, OHCHR wishes to highlight that the discrimination people of African descent experience is a hindrance to their advancement and to the development of the societies in which they live. The video is asking viewers to let go of their preconceptions and realise that to every person there is more than meets the eye.

" Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies aux les droits de l'homme (HCDH), en partenariat avec l'Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, a produit un message télévisuel d'intérêt public sur la discrimination envers les personnes d'ascendance africaine, dans le contexte de l'Année internationale des personnes d'ascendance africaine.

L'objectif principal de l'Année internationale est de sensibiliser le public aux défis auxquels sont confrontées les personnes d'ascendance africaine. Peu de gens savent qui sont les personnes d'ascendance africaine, leur nombre et où elles se trouvent dans le monde. Peu aussi connaissent leur histoire et leurs contributions aux sociétés dans lesquelles elles vivent. Ceci met en lumière leur manque de visibilité ainsi que la discrimination particulière qu'elles subissent au quotidien, où qu'elles soient dans le monde.

Avec ce message, le HCDH tient à souligner que la discrimination que les personnes d'ascendance africaine endurent est un frein à leur développement et à celui des sociétés dans lesquelles elles évoluent. La vidéo demande aux spectateurs de se défaire de leurs préjugés et réaliser qu'ils ne devraient pas se fier aux apparences.
