Lightwave Electric Spark Arc
Hi DG,
I read your tutorial from 1996 on Lightwave Lightning (http://www.illusionary.com/~dglidden/lightning.html), and found it useful. I also found a way to lock down either one end or both. In Lightwave 9.5 I was able to multiply your Fractal Bump noise by a white-to-black gradient based on the distance-from-pivot. If the lightning line is centered in modeler around the origin, then the center gets noisy while the tips stay still. If one tip is at origin, then that tip is the noisiest, and the opposite tip stays still. The only catch is that LW seems to want everything by axis, so there are two gradients affect X or Y displacement, and two noise channels affect X or Y displacement (I orient my bolt down the Z). Adding a third axis seemed to break everything, but it was 3am and I could have been doing something wrong. Thanks for the tutorial!
