I See a Church - Part 6 - Pastor Greg Surratt That Honors the Past, But is Willing to Risk It All on the Future When you dig a well, you might fall in. When you demolish an old wall, you could be bitten by a snake. When you work in a quarry, stones might fall and crush you. When you chop wood, there is danger with each stroke of your ax. Ecclesiastes 10:8-9 (NLT) Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest. Proverbs 14:4 (NLT) No prolonged infancies among us, please. We’ll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything... Ephesians 4:14 (MSG) God uses spiritual risks to help us grow •Coming to faith risks •Obedience risks •Leadings from God risks Luke 19:1-10 (NLT) HOW TO TAKE RISKS BY FAITH 1.GET YOURSELF IN A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN ENCOUNTER GOD Jesus entered Jericho and made his way through the town. There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich. He tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. Luke 19:1-4 (NLT) 2.BE READY TO DO SOMETHING When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.” Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. Luke 19:5-6 (NLT) 3.DON’T BE AFRAID TO IGNORE THE CRITICS Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. Proverbs 15:22 (NLT) But the people were displeased. “He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner,” they grumbled. Luke 19:7 (NLT) 4.BE PREPARED TO STEP INTO YOUR DESTINY Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.” Luke 19:8-10 (NLT)
