This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The real estate world is very traditional, maybe it has even ground to a halt. Real estate professional Marlon Huysmans is convinced that a revolution is imminent in this sector. A revolution which is the consequence of online data which is becoming increasingly available for everyone.

Huysmans is convinced that the value of a home or office in the near future will no longer essentially depend on conventional factors such as location, size and condition. Huysmans says that soon reviews from renters and neighbours and dynamic data (for example data on telephone and Wi-Fi coverage, traffic information and burglar reports) will soon offer comprehensive transparency in the real estate market. What does this mean for the value of real estate and what will the role of traditional market parties such as real estate agents and property valuers be? What does it mean if buildings are connected to people via technology?

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
