The Forgotten Black Cotton

Downtrodden is our mind. For we accept lies and not the forgotten/
What do you think when you set your mind on the fabric called cotton/
Do you see shame? Do you feel pain? Do you desire a deserved gain?/
When institutions still steal your energy, does your heart feel flame?/
"Black" people. My folk. Strung out on dope or just lost hope/
In every poem I wrote, I note to widen up our scope/
The symbol of our oppression in a land we have come to love/
Still seen as barbaric because the skin ain't as bright as a dove/
Who envies us enough that we can't take back our dignity/
An identity crisis I see. Lost sheep. No history was meant for me/
I'm the entity of what my ancestors hoped to revive/
Whats that you ask? We'll its much more than spending my life trying to survive/
Its to snatch every fuckin' cotton clothing of the rack in these stores/
And to soak up the water to find my dead people on the Atlantic ocean floor/
But that's a chore I don't have the privilege to embrace/
Ain't enough cotton in the world to wipe my ghetto tearz off my cursed faced/
My enslaved ancestors couldn't even wipe the blood from their back/
In the fear of seeing their children getting raped and snatched/
Understanding is all I ask, and of course the retribution/
I mean, whose technology and inventions do you think you're usin'?/
I'd rather separate than be tied to a nation of hypocrisy and evils/
I'm a souljah. Practicing the art of war for a lost people/
And the tactics that I wish to first use shall never be forgotten/
To soak up the Atlantic, and wipe the tearz, sweat and blood, with MY cotton/

Tha Black Cotton-pickin truth/
To restore the freedom and equilibrium of our off balanced youth/
For my parents who suffered for me would have wanted me to do/
As I thrive for the divinity, we fear without a clue/
Tell me. What does black cotton mean to you.../

Shalom/Peace
