I've been experimenting with three levels of charred material in my tinderbox. I believe I'm getting better ignition rates by charring in an open tinderbox verses starving the material of oxygen with a closed lid. David West has intrigued my curiosity in his ashed tinder videos. I don't know the science behind the ash/fire relationship, but I'll continue researching.
