Starting in the late 1950s, General Motors needed a car that could compete against Ford’s personal luxury offerings. Enter the Riviera, a car that evoked the allure of the famed French coastline and borrowed its sleek styling from Europe’s best. 1968 marked the third year of the second-generation Riviera and this Buick retains much of its originality. While the car received a fresh coat of its factory maroon, the vinyl top is in the same condition it left the showroom in December of 1967. Loop-type bumpers surround this Buick’s recessed crosshatch grille and tail lamps while attractive wheels convey class and elegance. Open the doors to reveal a beautiful original black interior that has been well-kept by the same family for over 50 years! Powering this beauty is the numbers-matching 430 CID V8 engine which replaced the venerable 425 Nailhead that had powered much of Buick’s luxury fleet. The 430 V8, rated at 360 horsepower and 475 lb-ft torque were a vast improvement in performance as well as gas mileage which led to records in unit sales that year.
