Holocaust survivors at Hanukkah ceremony in Moscow

(4 Dec 2018) Survivors of the Nazi Holocaust are gathering in four cities around the world for menorah-lighting ceremonies marking the third night of Hanukkah. The Moscow candle lighting and prayer ceremony was led by the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Rabbi Berel Lazar, and took place at the Jewish Community Centre and Synagogue. Lazar said "it was hard and scary" for the Holocaust survivors, and "they suffered a lot. But these people rose again." Candle-lit ceremonies also took place in New York, Berlin and Jerusalem. Each location was attended by Holocaust survivors. The Nazi Holocaust genocide, which took place during World War II, killed around two-thirds of the Jewish population in Europe.
