Stars, politicians arrive for Ambani-Piramal wedding

(12 Dec 2018) A string of Bollywood stars, famous politicians, and other celebrities poured into a 27-storey residence in Mumbai for the marriage of the scions of two billionaire families on Wednesday evening. The power packed guest list included Indian actors Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Rajinikanth, and former Indian Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. The bride, Isha Ambani, is the Ivy League-educated daughter of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, thought to be India's richest man, at an estimated net worth at over 43 billion US dollars, according to Forbes. The groom, Anand Piramal, is the relative pauper; his father, industrialist Ajay Piramal, is thought to be worth 10 billion US dollars. The wedding festivities began weeks ago, starting in September with an engagement party at a lakeside Italian palace. Over the weekend, thousands attended pre-wedding parties at a 16th century palace in the Indian desert city of Udaipur, where videos shot by partiers showed Hillary Clinton and former US Secretary of State John Kerry among guests. Antilia, the Ambanis' 27-storey Mumbai home, has been strung with lights for the wedding, while nearby streets were decorated by floral garlands. The Ambani fortune stretches across a range of industries, from petroleum to chemicals to mobile phones.
