Local Singer Building Her Own "Empire"

DAYTON -- As the hit Fox show Empire returns to the air, a singer in Dayton is working on building her own empire. Yvette "Diva" Williams is a singer, songwriter and an author. In January she released her first album. Her new song "The Way They Like It" is becoming a hit in Dayton. The lyrics encourage women to embrace their bodies.  It's even led to a campaign on Facebook and Twitter. Women and men are posting selfies with the hashtag "TheWayTheyLikeIt" Williams tells us the music business is hard to break into and she wrote the song to reject the American standards of beauty. "All my life I was called fat. I was called ugly and you know I just decided to write a song to denounce all of those words. It's really time we are all good with the skin we're in." Fox 45's Amber Jayanth visited the studio Razdabar as Yvette was working on new music. She has been singing professionally since she was 18-years-old. Williams comes from a musical family her dad is a self-taught percussionist and her mother is a classical pianist.  In addition to her love of music she is also a huge fan of the show Empire. This past year she's been living a taste of that life. She says although the show is very "Hollywood" you can learn a few things from it.  "It's a business it's fun It's glamorous. It's divalicious. It's all the rest of that stuff, but It's a business and if you don't understand the business behind all of this you can really get yourself in some hot water." For the past few years Williams has been working with producer and engineer, Mo Beats at Razdabar. Currently her new album  has a place on the wall at the Razdabar Studio. She's working on taking her music to the next level to keep "Dayton Funk" alive. Her song "The Way They Like It" is currently available in iTunes.
