(1 Dec 2018) Iraqis in the city of Irbil reacted on Saturday to the death of former US President George HW Bush, expressing sympathy and solidarity with the US people. Bush launched the operation (Desert Storm) to get the Iraq forces out of Kuwait in January 1991. It kicked out the Iraqi forces and caused huge damage to the Iraqi weaponry arsenal. He pushed also for UN resolution no. 688, which established a no fly zone in northern and southern Iraq, to protect the Iraqi Kurds in the north and the Shia Arabs in the south from the Iraqi regime's airstrikes. The resolution has paved the way for the establishment of a Kurdish regional government in Iraq in 1992. The Kurdistan Region of Iraq is an autonomous region in the northern part of Iraq. It has a population of over 5 million.
