The secret to stopping deforestation in Guatemala? Community. ⁣
⁣
In the Maya Biosphere Reserve, we've been working with sustainable forestry concessions run by local communities since 1999. The forest concessions of the MBR have boasted an astonishing near-zero deforestation rate for the last 14 years—a remarkable feat given that areas directly adjacent to these concessions suffer some of the highest deforestation rates in the Americas. In fact, the concessions have had much better success keeping the forest standing than most of the MBR’s units dedicated to strict protection.⁣

Join us to support the people of the Maya Biosphere Reserve in our mutual goal of building the health of forests and the communities that depend on them for generations to come.
