Speyer Cathedral, a World Heritage Site since 1981, was once intended to be the biggest Christian church in Europe. The Romanesque cathedral was built at the beginning of the 10th century during the reign of the Salian dynasty. Its crypt is the largest Romanesque columned hall in Europe and the final resting place of the Salian rulers.
