U.S. Senator Tim Scott is the first Black American Senator from the state of South Carolina. Tim Scott's parents divorced when he was 7 years old. While his father was away in the military, Senator Scott and his brother were raised by a working mother in a low income environment. At one point Senator Scott was flunking just about all of his high school classes and was feeding into the "Woe Is We" mindset. Being a poor Black male from a single parent home in the south, Tim Scott had plenty of excuses to choose from as to why he would be one of the guys standing on the corner, drinking a 40oz. Tim made the decision to get himself together and stop using excuses for personal failure. Senator Tim Scott is a graduate of Charleston Southern University, and the owner of Tim Scott, Allstate Insurance Co. He is the first Black American Senator to represent a Southern state since 1881
