Train ready to transport President Bush's casket

(4 Dec 2018) The Bush 4141, a locomotive dedicated to former President George H. W. Bush is being prepared to carry the late president's casket from Houston to College Station, Texas on Thursday. The Union Pacific train will take about 2½ hours to travel roughly 70 miles to the city of College Station, home to Bush's presidential library at Texas A&M University. The locomotive has been painted the colors of the Air Force One plane used during Bush's presidency and bears the number "4141" in honor of the 41st president. The casket will be in a car with Plexiglas windows to allow people to see it during the trip, according to McGrath, the family spokesman. "People are not as accustomed to travel by passenger rail on train, we mainly haul freight," Brenda Mainwaring, Asst. VP Public Affairs, Union Pacific Railroad. "But President Bush, as a veteran of World War II, he went to war on the train, he came home from war on the train. And I think that emotional connection to the railroad really stuck with him. So when he was planning his funeral and talking to his staff about how he wanted to be remembered, he wanted to have his final trip to College Station to be on the railroad."
