This model is the next iteration of my GR-2 autogyro. The primary difference between it and version C is the use of a high rpm, low pitch propeller. Unlike previous versions that used a High pitch, low rpm prop with a gear ratio of 16:1, this model uses a slightly smaller diameter propeller spun with a gear ratio of 6:1. As the model is still powered by the same motor, and the overall weight of the aircraft did not change (hence the required power to fly stayed constant), there was a massive decrease in the reaction torque felt in the roll axis. This is of great importance as it allowed the tail of the aircraft to not be cambered as aggressively to counter said torque. In fact, the torque was so low no camber was needed at at. The lack of camber in the tail section provided a significant reduction in overall drag. When compared to previous versions, it can be seen this version flies slightly faster. The second important modification was the restructuring of the landing gear. The forward facing V used in the C version was a poor design. It induced instability on the ground due to the front wheels bending their supports and creating an effective negative caster; It was very easy for the model to tip over as a result. To counter this problem, the landing gear was converted to a tricycle configuration. The third modification was the changing of the tail from a Y shape to a T shape. This was done to decrease the height of the tail and reduce the likelihood of it being struck by the rotor. Along with this change, the entire tail section was moved aft about twice it's original distance. This increased lever arm greatly improved the pitch stability of the aircraft. Previously, the Y tail was very close to the propeller disk in an effort to improve it's function as a stator. With that now less demanding, the tail could be safely moved aft. Overall the model flew similarly to version C, albeit somewhat faster and less pitch sensitive. Music is: Sight of Spira - FFX OST
