Should you find yourself on the receiving end of a drum gift, particularly one of the eBay/pawn shop/used market secondhand variety, this special episode of Sounds Like a Drum should be helpful. Regardless, we decided to simulate the common condition of a secondhand drum that has been "loved to death" and went through the process of sprucing it up one step at a time so you could hear the incremental effects of new wires, new snare side, and new batter head. Additionally, we caution against some quick-fix corner-cutting that can bring about further headache in the future. Wishing you all a happy, safe, and percussive holiday season!
