This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. My talk will focus on the challenge of engaging in our lives. It is easy to fall into what I will refer to as the 22 year funnel in which American youth are moved by an invisible hand from one stage to the next without questioning the process we are involved in. My aim is to identify this process and further to question it so all can be sure that their decisions are right for them, not right for what is expected of them. I will talk about my experiences traveling and the people I have met who have made me more aware of this 'funnel' as well as my years in high school in which I was blind to it and moving along with everyone else because that was what I assumed had to happen. This talk will be about making the life you want happen, rather than letting it happen to you

Madison recently completed her sophomore year at the Saint Louis University Madrid campus where she will study for the next two years and complete her degrees in International Relations and Communications. Her greatest joys are being an older sister five times over, traveling, and sitting down with a good book. Madison spent her freshman year of college in Thessaloniki, Greece, where her ideas, perspectives and outlook changed. After graduation from University, Madison plans to teach in South Korea, Ghana, and Chile and then be employed by National Geographic. This is a big change from her 5 year old self's dream of working as the Schwan's Man.
