Hurricane Charley destroyed or severely damaged 40 percent of Charlotte County's public schools in 2004. During the rebuilding effort, school officials along with FEMA and state recovery managers committed to rebuilding stronger. The team also worked together to better protect schools that weren't badly damaged. All this means Charlotte County will avoid or reduce damage should disaster strike in the future.
