South African artist, born in Durban. He started off with various bands in the 1960s and early 1970s, including The Statesmen, Dialogue, The Rising Sons and Hunky Dory, before going solo. His first single "Could you ever love me again" was released in 1973. He achieved his first chart success in 1974 with "A rose has to die", and followed this up with "A million drums" in 1975 and "Stone walls" in 1977. The same year saw him receiving a Sarie award as best male vocalist. In 1978 he formed the group "Stringray" and once again made the charts with "Better the devil you know". In 1988 he was nominated to represent South Africa at the Chilean song festival with the song, "Genevieve", where he achieved second place against twelve other countries. He was also voted top vocalist of the contest by viewers all across South America, Canada and Australia. This song is off the album "Stone Walls", released in 1977. It was written by Dennis East and was also released on 7" single in the same year.
