This is why I love Buddy Guy. This is "Worried Mind" off of his "Buddy's Blues" Chess 50th Anniversary album. This song was recorded in 1963. Listen to the intro lick that he plays. I bet you never thought of that. What I am trying to show here is that you can improvise with infinite possibilities. I make this up as I go following the standard minor and major pentatonic scale patterns. You can hit some "wrong" notes and still make it sound good just as long as they resolve to the "right" notes. That took me a long time to get the hang of. When I first started jamming again at blues jams, I realized that I was rambling somewhat and not really trying to say anything. I was just playing the patterns I was used to. I let my fingers lead when I should have been making my mind lead. Just keep listening to the great blues players and it will eventually sink in. I was fascinated with the first few intro notes because I had never thought of that before. I know it now. Keep practicing.
