In this video, a bondsman & a criminal defense lawyer, Neil Shouse explain how to post bail bonds at California jails. ** UPDATE** As of 2020 the California Supreme Court ruled that people who cannot afford to pay bail must be released unless there is clear and convincing evidence that incarcerating them is necessary for public or victim safety. And in Los Angeles County, people arrested for misdemeanors or non-violent, non-serious felonies MUST be released without paying bail. "Bail" refers to the money that you must post with the court in order to be released from jail. It is a way of ensuring the court that you will attend your future court appearances. And, under certain circumstances, and in connection with certain crimes, the judge will deny you the right to post bail. However, most of the time, bail is required.
