Amelia Ong began singing and played piano at the age of 4, and was soon performing on Television, Radio, and in big jazz events both local and internationally Her life revolved around many big jazz names such as Buby Chen, Benny Likumahua, Ireng Maulana, Yance Manusama, Idang Rasjidi and more from a young age. Amelia then moved to Perth in 2006, and finished her study at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2009 as Bachelor of Music, majoring in Jazz Performance. It was during her study that she had the privilege to have joined the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) in 2007-2009 She has since made her mark as a young, fresh, and upcoming soul artist in Australia by performing with many great Australian artists such as Joe Chindamo, Daryl Somers, James Morrison, Katie Noonan, and more in big jazz festivals such as Wangaratta Jazz Festival ’09, and many others She has now developed a concept for herself with wide repertoire of jazz standards and her love of world music, which gives her a “new age” edge both in her compositions, arrangements, and performances. “Amelia Ong” Album The album Amelia Ong is a collection of some of her compositions since 2007. “The music has to flow naturally in your heart, not just your ears” she often said when asked about her compositions. Her inspirations came from her daily life experiences, therefore she believes that her songs has to have a good moral and a positive message behind it for people to take home. She doesn’t believe in rules and boundaries when it comes to writing her heart out. This album is definitely her platform to show the world her love of music, her compositions, and more importantly her stories through creating a blank canvas for the great musicians in it to experiment their colors together with her. She also chose to put all her English lyrics songs in this album in hope that this album can be welcomed world wide too. She carefully hand picked her musicians in hope that they can bring extra colors and characters to the songs. For example in song “In My Eyes”, the original arrangement was to have piano and bass and vocal in it. However in the middle of recording this album she had a change of heart and decided she wanted to do this song in a more intimate arrangement, using Sri Hanuraga’s talent, and finally came up with a beautiful keys and vocal arrangement. The song “Someone to Watch Over Me” was picked to release the tension from all the unique originals she wrote. For this sweet piece she chose to have Nial Djuliarso with his incredible skill to enhance the sweetness of this standard and Indra Dauna to give a romantic approach with his trumpet solos in this song. This album was made in hope to introduce Amelia Ong as a singer songwriter with pieces of her life to be shared and to bring positive message and energy to everybody.
