South African group that has its roots in 1956 when Dee Sharma (penny whistle, later changing to saxophone) met Harry Naidoo (guitar) at a talent contest at the Himalaya Hotel in Durban, and they formed the D&H Duet. Soon afterwards they were joined by Sharma’s old school friend, Midget Vahed, who sang rock ‘n roll songs, as well as by Moon Gartiah (drummer) and Vassie Naidoo (accordion), and then decided to change their name to The Dukes Combo. They quickly established their own distinctive style and was in huge demand, playing at the Ocean Terminal, Imperial Hotel, Pelican Hotel, Isipingo Island Hotel, Starlite Hotel, Greencat Restaurant, Himalaya Hotel, Asoka Hotel, Butterworth Hotel, Athlone Hotel and Belgica Hotel. In 1978 the band members quit their day jobs and turned professional, and soon had contracts at the Las Vegas discotheque in Johannesburg and the Why Not Disco in Swaziland. Over the years the group underwent many changes and additions, including: • David Royeppen (bass) • Brian Thusi (trumpet) • Eugene Mkhize (guitar) • Sagie Naidoo (guitar) • Philip Thusi (trombone) • Also: Martin Sigamoney, Neil Gonsalvez, George Mari, Eve Boswell, Ben Msinga, Zane Adams and many more. They are still going strong, even today. This medley is off the album “It’s Dynamic”, released in 1970. "Winter World Of Love" is a cover of an Engelbert Humperdinck song, "The Liquidator" a cover of a Harry J Allstars song, and "Love At First Sight" a cover of "Je t'aime… moi non plus" by Serge Gainsbourg, all songs from 1969.
