At the beginning of the season John Lynch seemed reluctant to extend Laken Tomlinson’s contract. Apparently it was a move by Lynch to motivate LT to show some added effort. Apparently it worked. It would seem that with the extension Tomlinson is most likely starting at the left guard position. 
It may have never been assumed that Joshua Garnett was starting at either left, or right guard. Garnett was always in the mix to compete for the starting job. 
The question now is with this latest move by the 49ers regarding the guard position what does this mean for Garnett?
The most mysterious thing about the latest developments is that a few days ago before the announcement of Tomlinson’s contract extension negative rumors were circulating about Garnett. Coincidence? Has a decision already been made? Will Garnett be on the 49ers next season? Will he end up on the depth chart below another starter at right guard?
The 49ers have paid Jonathan Cooper $4.95mill. Cooper is not going to sit on the bench at that price. 
Besides Cooper may actually be the most talented guard on the roster. Garnett’s work is cut out for him…
It is believed by some that that when the dust settles this may be the 49ers starting lineup…
