Claire Carpenter is a Biology Instructor at Yakima Valley Community College. She earned her BA in Biology from Colorado College, and her MS in Biology from the University of New Mexico. It was time spent pursuing research in Antarctica that began Claire's love for applied science, and the teaching of science. Her passions include eating and growing local food and supporting local businesses and the community. She raises chickens, turkeys, goats, and bees as well as two young children. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
