On the third day of her journey,Anne-Katrin Gottschling visits the River Elbe,and the little town of Lenzen,some 200 kilometers southeast of Hamburg. Until 20 years ago,the River Elbe marked the border between the two Germanys along a 100-km stretch. Today,this region is a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
