"As an adult, change in real terms is almost impossible (no matter what one type of therapy or another tells you), we are all pretty much stuck with who we are. Not great when your a psychopath, but we all have our own cross to bear." - Failed Self-Changer (posted on Facebook)

Of all the species on planet earth, human beings are, without doubt, the paragon of learners, self changers and self developers. No other species would seem to have nearly the level of ability that we have for self reflection, perspective taking and problem solving, and as such, it is likely that we are the only species with a true capacity to become self authoring.

Yet for many people change seems impossible - they try and try again, but hard as they try, the results seem insignificant (as was the case with the person quoted above).

Over the years that I have been a changework practitioner and professional change consultant, I have encountered many people who have struggled with self change, but I have also been fortunate to have met many who are highly adept at the practise. People who are able to step out of themselves and look and how they are being and doing, make adjustments, then step back in and enjoy the difference.

So what is the difference?

In my experience, those who are really good at self change have a collection of skills, attitudes and understandings that, when taken together, I call...

A high quality Learning and Change Engine!

And those who don't do not. Developing a high quality Learning and Change Engine takes some time, so it cannot be installed overnight - but it is an investment of time that is well worth making.
