During my teaching we discuss how to cost or estimate the work of internal ressources. This is the case when several of your coworkers are assigned to your project. The discussion goes about how to estimate the cost and how to evaluate it, as as how to value the work if it’s not costed.
We will show two approaches for the same project
a) Not costing internal ressources
b) Costing internal ressources
You don’t need to have the exact cost of each resource.
This can highly influence the cost of your project.
We will show the example with the CRM project

We can use some of the reports to illustrate the situation
Dashboard costs
• Without costing
• With costing of internal ressources
Dashboard work overview
• Without costing
• With costing of internal ressources

We will compare a cost change with the two ways and compare the results.
In this teaching you will see how to use baselines or references in costs as well as costs overrun reports and work summary reports.

Volunteer work
Volunteer work is also an important aspect, specially for NGOs or event management. Since volunteers by definition do not cost for their work. They might cost for some fees like meals, drinks, transportation, lodging.
So how to value this volunteer work if it’s not through costs.

What does your organization do?
Once we have seen all those situations what are organisations doing about internal costs.
Some do estimate their ressources as costs and integrate those costs in their budget as well do a cost tracking.
Some do not consider their internal ressources as costs in the project. This case is something I see quiet often. To this extend we can see the extreme with NGO working with volunteers that will not get a salary out of this work.
