Well I have finally reached the milestone of 1000 uploads. I asked friends and subscribers for suggestions as to what I should do for this number, and one of the suggestions was that I should write my own song for the occasion. Last weekend, I did so and then thought as the song combines my love for singing and for the beauties of my homeland why not illustrate it using my own photographs, thus combining all my interests in one project. I hope it gives you as much pleasure as it has given me to make it. Thanks to all my friends and subscribers for your support over the past couple of years. I hope to keep on uploading for as long as I am able, and perhaps some day double my output, though that will probably take longer than the first 1000.
The song is a musical journey around the Isle of Man beginning at the Ayres in the north of the island and moving in a zig-zag way to the opposite end finishing at the Calf of Man.
A short explanation of some of the place names is:
Smeale, Bride and Andreas are small villages on the northern plain. Snaefell is the only official mountain on the island, barely qualifying as such, although some of the other hills are referred to as mountains. Ramsey and Laxey are on the east coast, as is Douglas (the island's capital). Across the island on the west coast is Peel, known as The Sunset City and south of that Glen Maye. The Round Table is a cross-roads at the foot of South Barrule, the highest hill in the south of the island. Ballamodha is a small hamlet through which passes the longest stretch of straight road in the island leading to Castletown (the former capital). Langness and Scarlett are headlands either side of Castletown and looking westward from the latter at the south west and south east parts of the island stand Port Erin (Purt Chairn) and Port St Mary (Purt Le Murra) respectively. South of these villages stands Cregneash the picturesque hamlet which contains fine examples of traditional thatched Manx cottages. The farm there is run by the Manx National Heritage in the old traditional ways. Finally, just off the south coast of the island is the Calf of Man, an island looked after by the Manx National Trust as a bird sanctuary.

As I ramble around this island fair and I see the loveliness that’s there
                                                                          F G C
I breathe your clean and sweetly scented air and thank the Lord for all His bounty and His care.

My island home, my island home, around your footpaths forever let me roam

Along the beach we walk near the Point of Ayre, Smeale, Bride and Andreas, where hills are somewhat rare
But if to southward we let our gazes stare our only mountain is silhouetted there.

From Royal Ramsey as further south we bear we come to Laxey, water wheels are there,
King Orry’s Grave, but not St Patrick’s Chair, although that too is on our island fair.

Atop Snaefell, the lovely view, I swear all round this land is beautiful and fair
I thank the Lord as I kneel to Him in prayer that with good friends I have this land to share

From Douglas to the Sunset City fair we walk along the trail without a care
Glen Maye, Round Table, where you might spot a hare. Down Ballamodha to Castletown and its square.

Around Langness and Scarlett now we bear and to ‘Purt Chairn’ and ‘Purt Le Moirrey’ we can stare
Below Cregneash lies the Calf and Sound that’s where our journey ends around this island fair.
