Classified as an amphetamine that stimulates the central nervous system, Ritalin is often prescribed for ADHD to help focus at school or work. When used properly, it gives a sense of alertness and concentration, but when abused it is similar to the effects of cocaine. Withdrawal symptoms can occur if someone abruptly stops taking Ritalin and the severity of the symptoms depends on how long they were taking the drug. These symptoms include body fatigue, irregular mood fluctuations, flu-like symptom, seizures, and panic attacks.
