Protesters and police clash in Nicaragua

(30 Sep 2018) Clashes erupted in Nicaragua's capital on Saturday as protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega. Dozens of riot police vehicles were seen arriving at the Cristo Rey rotary on Saturday, to disperse protesters gathered for the 'Nicaragua in rebellion' march. In Managua, a group of protesters was seen dispersing after police inside vehicles appeared to throw stun grenades. The attack comes a day after the Orteguista Police issued a statement in which it formalised the criminalisation of social protests by calling them illegal and threatening to prosecute those who join them.
