Operation Wildlife Helps Injured Bobcat

Kansas wildlife center is caring for a bobcat that was hit by a car.

The young bobcat was brought to Operation Wildlife about a month ago. It was comatose and had a head injury.

Operation Wildlife's Sheryl Saunders said the animal is making a remarkable recovery.
KMBC's Martin Augustine reported that bobcats aren't rare, but it is unusual for humans to see them because the animals are nocturnal and are elusive.

To live, bobcats need to hunt for food, and that may spell trouble for the young bobcat.

Saunders said she hopes the bobcat can be returned to the wild. However, it will be euthanized if it never regains its instincts to hunt.

"They're not your pet, but you still love them. You care for them every day. You want to see them get better. It's hard. You don't want to put them down," Saunders said.
