Route 216.

Oh god, I love this track so much.

...as with most of the other 4th Generation Pokemon tracks, really. But this track stood out. It was the one that I never really got the melody of, yet remembered clearly from start to finish. And I guess there were a bunch of things that had to happen to get this track stuck so close to me.

I like to think that the 4th Generation of the Pokemon series contains its finest collection of in-game music. There's a cool little fan theory about the links between the Pokemon regions and cities in the real world; regardless whether or not that holds true, the Dixieland-jazz-inspired tracks of DPPt, which bravely fused jazz with brave electronic sounds that had characterised the Pokemon OSTs since the 1st Generation, allowed for some of the most snazzy and listen-worthy tracks in the entire Pokemon collection.

I played Diamond a year after it was released. I couldn't fully appreciate the beauty of the soundtrack then - for one thing though, I knew it was good. With not the faintest idea of what harmony was, and not the faintest idea of how stupid it was to overtrain your starter, I guess I went through the game like a child who was learning something he loved, with the feelings of wonder hanging around in each new experience and the innocent joy of not knowing what to do included. That being said, most of the moments of my first run were forgotten, because the magical feeling of having an overlevelled Torterra blasting through wimpy Zubats with Strength (the other moves being EQ, Wood Hammer and Synthesis, how dumb) was lost after some time. But it was also my first run that got me captivated by a game soundtrack for the first time...
