Nov.27 -- A Chinese researcher claims that he helped make the world's first genetically edited babies. He Jiankui says he edited the DNA of embryos for seven couples during fertility treatments. The goal was to prevent future HIV infection by disabling a gene called CCR5, which forms a protein doorway that allows HIV to enter a cell. Some scientists have condemned the experiment, calling it unconscionable and morally indefensible.
