This morning we explore slam poetry. If you haven’t heard of it, it's a type of poetry competition where participants perform without music or props. They are then scored by judges until there's only one winner. Here in South Africa, poetry house Current State of Poetry is nurturing that culture and hopes to build a stable and sustainable poetry community. The poetry house is currently running a competition called South African National Poetry Slam which will be taking place later this afternoon. It’s in partnership with MoArts and the Joburg Theatre Youth Development. The slam comes after a provincial slam, involving all 9 South African provinces. We speak to two finalists, Zanele Khoza who won the KwaZulu-Natal leg and Thuthuka Myeza who reigned supreme in Gauteng. Current State of Poetry Administrator Wazi M Kunene also joins the conversation.
