Minaret Vista in the Inyo National Forest (elevation 9,265 feet). Obviously, I didn't know this at the time, but Steve Fossett died after crashing his aircraft into the mountains in the distance... That aside, it's an incredible view of one of the most extreme parts of the Sierra Nevada. If you visit Devil's Postpile, you'll pass Minaret Vista on the way in.
